West Africa in full

The total route

Duration: 14 days

Loana Travel presents the ultimate tour. As experts in the Gulf of Guinea, we have designed a unique journey covering seven West African countries, from Gambia to Ivory Coast.

Ethnicities, religions, customs and nature combine in this month-long journey, offering you an adventure that will lead you to discover hidden places, fascinating tribes, ancient traditions and surprising rituals.

Thanks to our experience and in-depth knowledge of this fascinating and little-known region, you will experience a journey of learning, local interaction and exploration that will mark a before and after in your life.

Due to the logistical complexity of the trip, we will move by 4×4, and we will help you with everything you need, including visa arrangements.

Day 1: Arrival in Banjul

We will arrive in Banjul and transfer to the hotel. Depending on the arrival time, we will take a short tour of the city.

Day 2: Banjul – Ziguinchor (Senegal)

In the morning, we will enjoy a brief walk through the Gambian capital and then visit the fishing villages along the coast until we reach Senegal, where we will explore the Casamance region and Cap Skirring.

Day 3: Cassamance – Bissau

Este día lo dedicaremos a visitar la hermosa región de Casamance en Senegal, con su identidad única y donde aún perduran las tradicionales danzas animistas.

Afterwards, we will cross the border into the capital of Guinea-Bissau.

Day 4: Guinea Bissau

After breakfast, we will visit the capital, a dynamic and multicultural city where various religions coexist.

Founded by the Portuguese in the 17th century, the city has a rich cultural history, reflected in its impressive colonial buildings, which we will explore.

In the evening, we will have time to discover its vibrant nightlife.

Days 5 and 6: Guinea Conakry

In the morning, we will cross the border and begin our journey through Guinea Conakry, heading towards Labe and Kindia.

On the way, we will stop to admire the spectacular waterfalls of Mamou and get to know the Dozo ethnic group up close, exploring their rich culture and traditions.

Day 7: Sierra Leone

We will set off early for our next destination: the surprising Sierra Leone, where we will discover Freetown, its capital, a city full of colonial charm.

Day 8: Freetown and Bunce Island

To start the day, we will visit the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where we can observe these incredible animals in their natural habitat.

Then we will head to Bunce Island, one of the country’s most beautiful islands, to enjoy its natural beauty.

Day 9: Gola Rainforest National Park

On our journey south, we will stop at one of West Africa’s most important parks: Gola Rainforest National Park.

This park, which spans 71,070 hectares in the east of the country, is home to Sierra Leone’s largest rainforest. Recent biological studies have revealed that it is home to more than 330 bird species (14 of which are endangered), and 49 species of mammals, including a population of more than 300 chimpanzees, pygmy hippos and elephants.

It will be a unique opportunity to enjoy this unparalleled natural environment and its great biodiversity.

Day 10: Monrovia

In the morning, we will cross the border into Liberia to reach its capital, Monrovia – a city that combines chaos and sophistication in every corner.

Day 11: Gbarnga

We will begin the day by travelling to Gbarnga – a city that, although it may appear similar to many others in Liberia’s interior, has a rich history and heritage that sets it apart.

Day 12: Man (Ivory Coast)

We will cross into Ivory Coast and, upon arrival in Man, we will visit one of the freshest and most surprising regions of the country – known for its lush vegetation, valleys and peaks. This area is also a centre of the country’s animist traditions, where ancestral beliefs remain alive.

Day 13: Man – Daloa – Yamoussoukro

On the way to Daloa, we will search for the masks of the Gueré ethnic group – some of the hardest to find. These masks are characterised by their somewhat demonic appearance, and the wearers are accompanied by raffia costumes. We will continue our journey to the capital, Yamoussoukro, founded by the first president Houphouët-Boigny.

There, we will visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace – an impressive megalomaniac project inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, and considered the largest religious building in all of Africa. We will also stop to see, from the outside, the Presidential Palace next to the Crocodile Lake – a unique and historic site.

Day 14: Yamoussoukro – Grand Bassam – Abidjan – Return

We will continue south, and on our final day we will visit one of the jewels of Ivory Coast: Grand Bassam – a city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and one of the finest examples of the colonial era in Africa.

After exploring Grand Bassam, we will make a short journey to Abidjan, the capital, to continue the visit.

At the end of the day, we will head to the airport for the return flight.
